Bioethanol – oxygen-containing anti-knock gasoline additive.
Use of oxygen-containing gasoline additives is a way to reach real economical and ecological improvements. Addition of oxygenates to automotive gasoline results in improvement of knock characteristics of gasoline, as increase of oxygen concentration in a fuel adds to better combustion of hydrocarbons, decreases calorific value of fuel and air mixture, facilitates faster extraction of heat from the combustion chamber, which leads to decrease of maximum burning temperature.
Recommended concentration of oxygenates in gasoline constitutes 3–15%; at the same time, content of oxygen in fuel should not exceed 2.7%.
It was determined that such content of oxygenates, despite their lower calorific value if compared to gasoline, does not exert negative influence on engine power capacity.
State Standard of Ukraine (ДСТУ) 4839:2007 (Automotive fuels of improved quality) stipulates maximum volume ratio of oxygen-containing organic ethanol compound of 5 %.

Bioethanol is a biological kind of fuel resulting from biomass fermentation.
Bioethanol and Alternative Engine Fuel Component produced according to the technology and using the equipment developed by Techinservice which are characterized by water volume rating of 0.2 %, gasoline volume rating of 1% and MTBE of 0.1-0.5 %, higher alcohols content of 12 g/dm³ and maximum acid ratio of 0.0025%(mass) are perfect oxygen-containing organic gasoline additives.
Total capacity of bioethanol producing units which function according to the technology and using the equipment by Techinservice constitutes 126.6 thousand of tons per year.
Gasoline containing oxygenate is characterized by better detergency, improved combustion characteristics, produces less carbon oxid and hydrocarbons at the time of combustion. Common characteristic of all oxygenates is that their calorific value is lower than that of hydrocarbons, that is why their content in a fuel is limited by possibility of engine operation without additional adjustment.

Maximum economic efficiency could be reached when producing RON (АИ) 95 or RON (АИ) 98 high-octane gasolines as the cost of the additive is comparable to the cost of RON (АИ) 92 gasoline.
If the fuel contains too much water (over 0.5 % mass) it could become clouded.
Delivery is by railway cars/tanks.
Quality of products complies with the requirements of Technical Specifications of Ukraine (ТУ У) No. 15.9-30219014-010:2007 and Technology regulations No. 00375280-001-2010 for production of bioethanol (anti-knock oxygen-containing gasoline additive).
